An Instagram frame template can do more than surround a picture. For a project post, give it three jobs: show the complete work, reveal one useful detail from that same work, and explain what you contributed. Keep the explanation and credit as separate text so you can update them without replacing the artwork.

The result is one project display card. Use it for an illustration, a poster, a packaging concept, or another piece where the full composition and a closer look tell different parts of the story. In CapCut Design Studio on the web, you can arrange those parts on a frame and keep an editable project alongside the exported image.

Choose a full view and a detail that belong together

Start with one finished project image you are allowed to share. The full view should show enough of the work for someone to understand its shape and composition. Keep important edges visible; a tight crop can make a complete poster look like an unexplained fragment.

Duplicate that image to make the detail. Choose a feature you can point to in the full view: a paper crease, an illustration texture, a type treatment, or a construction joint. The detail should answer a question the overview cannot answer at a small size. Two equally wide views add little.

Use the same source version for both. If you change the artwork later, replace both views. A close-up from an earlier version can quietly contradict the finished piece even when its colors match.

Write the explanation before designing its text box. One sentence can identify the project and the decision you want people to notice. Add a short role line that names your actual contribution. For a collaborative project, distinguish your work from the team's work rather than letting the picture imply that you created everything.

Build the display card in CapCut

Open your image project in Design Studio. For a broader starting point, explore AI image creation guides in CapCut. Bring in your own finished work with Upload. An AI-generated practice image can help you test the layout, but it should be identified as a practice image rather than presented as a commissioned project.

Our example uses an AI-generated abstract paper-fold image called Fold Study. The full view shows the zigzag and orange accent. The detail isolates the central crease and cyan stripe from that same image. It is a fictional design exercise, with no client or testimonial.

  1. Add a Frame and choose its size before arranging the content. Our example uses a 1920 × 1080 frame for a wide project board. This is the example's layout size, not a required Instagram posting size.
  2. 2
  3. Place the full image in the larger area. Resize it proportionally so the complete composition stays visible. Leave room around it for the title and explanation.
  4. 3
  5. Duplicate the image, then select Crop on the copy. Bring the crop boundaries inward around the detail. Check that the crease or other feature still matches its location in the overview; do not generate a new detail image as a substitute.
  6. 4
  7. Move the cropped copy into its own smaller area. Give it enough space to reveal the feature clearly. Keep a visible gap between the two views.
  8. 5
  9. Use Text to add the project name, explanation, and role or credit as separate objects. Place those objects outside the artwork so they do not conceal the feature you are presenting.

You do not need to generate an image to use this structure with an existing project. If you want an original practice composition, start with CapCut's AI image generator, then build the display around that result. Keep the image's origin clear in your project description.

Make the explanation and your role easy to change

Treat the title, explanation, and credit as different pieces of information. A title names the project. The explanation tells someone what to notice. The role line tells them which part you did. Keeping them separate lets you change the credit without disturbing the crop or rewriting the title.

For your own illustration, that might read:

  • Project name: Botanical Poster Study
  • Explanation: A limited palette keeps the plant shapes readable from a distance.
  • Role: Illustration and layout by Maya Chen

Replace the sample name and wording with your own true details. If you only designed the layout, say that. If another person supplied the photography, name their contribution where appropriate. Avoid adding a client name, award, or endorsement just to fill the space.

In the Fold Study test, we changed the separate explanation from “Paper-fold composition” to “Paper-fold study.” The full image and its detail stayed in place. The finished card also identifies the sample as “AI artwork · Demo layout.” This demonstrates an editable explanation without implying a real-world commission.

To revise your card, switch to Move, select the text object, and double-click the text on the canvas to edit it. Change one line first, then check the spacing. If a longer explanation wraps badly, shorten the sentence or give that text box more room. Shrinking every line can make the role unreadable on a phone.

Check the relationship before exporting

Look at the card at the width someone will actually see it. The complete work should be recognizable first, the detail should offer a closer look second, and the explanation should remain readable without zooming. If the detail competes with the overview, reduce its area or choose a more focused crop. If the credit disappears, shorten it or enlarge the text and free up space elsewhere.

Check three things before downloading:

  • Match the detail to an identifiable feature in the full image.
  • Read the explanation and role at phone width, including any wrapped lines.
  • Reopen the saved project and confirm that the text is still selectable separately from both images.

Select the frame and use Download to export the display card. Keep the saved CapCut project for later edits: the exported image does not preserve individually editable text layers. Open the downloaded file and inspect its edges and text again. If the intended Instagram post uses a different shape, adjust the frame and rearrange the content before exporting that version. Do not assume a wide project board will keep every element visible in a narrower crop.

A useful Instagram post frame gives the work a clear hierarchy. Keep the overview generous, choose a detail that proves something specific, and let a short truthful description finish the story.

FAQ

Should the detail be generated separately?

No. Duplicate and crop the same finished image so the detail corresponds to the overview. A newly generated close-up can change the work's shape or texture. If you update the source, update both views.

Can I update the description after downloading the card?

Edit the separate text object in the saved CapCut project, then download a new version. The exported image contains the visible text as pixels; it is not the editable project.

What should I put in the role line?

Name your actual contribution, such as illustration, photography, layout, or art direction. Credit collaborators where appropriate. For an AI practice image, identify it as a demo or practice piece rather than implying a client commission.

Is the wide example ready for every Instagram placement?

No. The example is a 1920 × 1080 project board. Choose the shape you need for the intended placement and check that the full view, detail, and credit fit inside it. Rearrange the card before export if a narrower crop would remove important content.
